tips to ensure that your wedding photos reflect the true spirit and emotions of the day

Introducing Twig & Vine

“I'm all about embracing spontaneity and encouraging some playful moments along the way. Your wedding day should unfold exactly as you envision it, and I'm here to make sure that happens. My style is grounded in authenticity, highlighting genuine, fun, and memorable moments with a touch of artistic flair.”

“Your wedding day is a whirlwind of emotions, laughter, tears, and joy. It's a day filled with precious moments that you'll want to cherish forever. As a wedding photographer, your role is not just to take pictures but to capture the essence of these moments in beautifully authentic images that tell the story of your special day. Here are some tips to ensure that your wedding photos reflect the true spirit and emotions of the day:”

Get to Know Your Photographer: Building a rapport with your photographer is key to getting authentic images. Schedule an engagement shoot or spend some time chatting over coffee/Zoom to get comfortable with each other. When you feel at ease with your photographer, it will naturally reflect in your photos. This point sits at number one for a good reason and it’s at the heart of how I work.

Embrace Candid Moments: While posed shots have their charm, some of the most authentic and touching moments happen spontaneously. Encourage your photographer to capture candid shots throughout the day – from the tear in your eye during the vows to the infectious laughter during the speeches. These candid moments often end up being the most cherished memories. My approach is a happy mix of both candid and a very few “directed” shots during the 10 minute couple’s shoot.

Focus on Emotions, Not Perfection: Your wedding day is not about achieving perfection; it's about celebrating love, family, and togetherness. Embrace the imperfections and let your emotions shine through. A genuine smile, a tender embrace, or a heartfelt glance can speak volumes in a photograph, far more than perfect poses ever could.

Be Present in the Moment: It's easy to get caught up in the whirlwind of the day and forget to be present. Take a moment to breathe, soak in the love surrounding you, and appreciate the significance of the day. When you're fully present and immersed in the moment, it reflects in your photos, creating timeless images that you'll treasure for years to come.

Include Personal Touches: Infuse your photos with personal touches that reflect your unique love story. Whether it's incorporating meaningful props, including beloved pets, or capturing cultural traditions, these personal touches add depth and authenticity to your images.

Trust Your Photographer: Your photographer is not just there to take pictures; they're there to tell your story through their lens. Trust their vision and expertise, and give them the creative freedom to capture the day as it unfolds. When you trust your photographer, they can work their magic and deliver images that exceed your expectations. It’s also important to let your bridal party know that you are allowing your photographer to capture every moment, even the happy tears.

Capture the Little Details: While the big moments certainly steal the spotlight, don't overlook the beauty of the little details that make your day uniquely yours. I love to photograph the intricate lace on your dress to the handcrafted centrepieces. Combined with beautiful lighting, these details help weave together the narrative of your wedding day and add value to your photo collection.

Stay True to Yourselves: Amidst the whirlwind of wedding planning, it's easy to get swept away by trends and expectations. Don’t try to replicate what you’ve seen on social media. Remember that your wedding day is a reflection of you as a couple, so stay true to yourselves and your vision. Authenticity shines through when you embrace who you are and celebrate your love in a way that feels genuine to you. Don’t try to replicate what you’ve seen on social media.

Relax and Enjoy the Moment: Finally, remember to relax and enjoy every moment of your wedding day. It's a day filled with love, laughter, and joy, and it's meant to be savoured. The time will pass so quickly on your wedding day. Trust that your photographer will capture the essence of the day, allowing you to fully immerse yourself in the magic of the moment.

“In the end, the most beautiful and authentic images are the ones that capture the love, laughter, and genuine emotions shared between you and your partner on your wedding day. By following these tips and embracing the moment, you'll create a timeless collection of memories that you'll cherish for a lifetime.”

“If these tips resonate with you, don’t hesitate to get in touch with me to check my availability on your day, and to have that all important chat to get to know each other.”
