DUTCH BARN DAYDREAM | With Green Gate Blooms

Light, airy, seasonal & ethereal

Introduction

Talk about perfect timing…When this styled photoshoot landed in our inbox, the sun that we had all longed for (seeing as it is August!) began to shine too. It’s was as if the universe knew that we needed something to brighten our day and remove the clouds away. This styled photoshoot is certainly a ray of sunshine.

With so much ethereal beauty, pops of delicate colours and a nod to country elegance, its hard knowing where to start? The curator, of course; Green Gate Blooms is an inspirational Nottinghamshire based florist and grower. With her very own gorgeous cutting garden, Cate grows as a many of her own blooms as possible without the use of chemicals, heat or airmiles. Cate’s ethos is powerful and strongly leads this styled shoot showcasing that sustainability doesn’t have to compromise any wedding day dreams. Here at the Save the Date HQ, we are in awe of Green Gate Blooms and Cate’s values and have fallen massively in love. We hope you enjoy…

Oddhouse Farm is a quaint agricultural farm steeped in history and set in the picturesque rolling countryside on the county borders of Nottinghamshire, Leicestershire and Lincolnshire; skirting the stunning Vale of Belvoir. With breath-taking views and a tastefully restored courtyard conversion (of pretty farm buildings), the offering of an exclusive space with a contemporary twist of rusticity and an air of quality sounds like a dream wedding venue to us.

Oddhouse Farm acted as a beautiful blank canvas for Green Gate Blooms showstopping florals. With hanging larkspur, floating drapes and delicate table flowers that create an illusion of a natural meadow growing from within, the feeling of outside was certainly brought in. And then adding crystal cut glass, vintage china and hand died napkins to the works, the details all come together (with thanks to the talented Elsbeth at Hire TwentyOne) to create a truly ethereal look beautifully captured by Anna Rose Heaton. Elsbeth also hand dyed her napkins to ensure a perfect match to the floral colour scheme. All these touches brought a elegant ambience to this project.

So thoughtfully designed by Ellie & Liv, the wedding stationery is just an extension of Green Gate Blooms vision as the tones and details seamlessly complement one another. Seeing so many weddings overs the years, here at the Save the Date HQ, we’ve learnt that complementing works more naturally and authentically than coordinating. Brownie points have been awarded here!

And then there’s the cake…WOW! Clare Ellen cake Designs never fails to wow us. The simplicity is so elegant and graceful.

Of course, we wouldn’t be doing this write-up justice if we didn’t talk about the dress. Although it is a beauty, what we love the most is that it’s a second hand beauty. In the wedding world of photoshoots, this is unheard off and a bold statement for Cate at Green Gate Blooms to make. Her dedication and drive for sustainability, reuse and recycle is remarkable and we love her for this. (psst, rumour has it that second hand and upcycled dresses are big for 2024 and beyond!). Anna Rose Heaton is just as passionate about sustainability too. Did you know she set about upcycling second hand wedding dresses in lockdown with her Granny Rae? So, when she was asked to work on this project, she was completely on board.

Simone at Ellie and Liv took as much care of providing stationery for this shoot as she would for any couple on their wedding day. With a list of feature flowers Cate intended to use Simone got to work hand drawing the delicate larkspur and scabious into her scheme.  The care she has about the materials she uses, the processes she goes through are all based on environmental principals. Everything here tones and works together seamlessly.

We have fallen head over heels for everything about this shoot and we hope you have enjoyed it just as much as us.
