I thee Wed – Amy and Tim

Posted by on in I thee wed, News.

Amy and Tim married on Saturday 12th June at St Michael's Church in Bramcote, before holding their wedding breakfast and evening reception at Shottle Hall. Very close friends of mine and Abbi's, I was really upset to be missing their big day (I was on honeymoon) and so when Amy sent through the pictures, I was really exicited to see her looking so gorgeous on her special day and Tim looking so dappa in his suit! Having known them both separately before they got together, I have watched them go from flirting, to dating, to moving in together and managed to miss the biggest step of all - them tying the knot! However, I've heard from Amy, Abbi and our other friends about how fantastic it was and here we bring you a snap shot of images from the day as well as an account from the lovely Amy herself:

Our family church is where the ceremony was held and this meant a lot to  us and felt very special. Having visited lots of venues around the East Midlands, we fell in love with Shottle Hall. With an intimate, not too big, wedding planned, we decided to hold our wedding breakfast in the Orangery within the main house itself, rather than the larger Coach House Marquee. A stunning room with fabulous views across the Derbyshire countryside, we knew it would be just the perfect place to hold our big day.  We had full use of the Hall's many reception rooms, along with all the bedrooms, and loved the fact that it made it all feel very exclusive!

Our cake was by Layers Cakes with the cute topper designed bespoke by Green and Stock. My hubby (!) Tim is a graphic designer and so he worked his magic on our printwork and designed a fantastic, contemporary style for all our invitations which followed through to the name place cards and menus , table plan, order of service etc.

We had initially booked a VW camper van to take us to church and me and Tim to Shottle Hall, however, it broke down on the way to church with Tim and his brother inside! It was a little bit disappointing, however, Tim's dad had just bought a new car and we managed to be chauffeured around in this which was great! Little hiccups like this happen on wedding days and we just got on with it and luckily, this didn't really cause a big problem for us.  (Tip: read and double check all your suppliers terms and conditions beforehand!)

My dress was by Essence of Australia at New Bride, Nottingham. I was so pleased with the final 'look' of the dress and felt it suited my figure and style just perfectly , I felt like a proper princess!  My bridesmaid dresses were also from there and I was also really pleased with these - my girls looked fab!

My florist and photographer were both excellent and worked closely with us to make sure the end results were exactly as we had planned and joined us for planning meetings/rehearsals at the venue and church. (From my event managers point of view it was important to know they'd already had a look around the venues and knew about lighting, access, etc!!)

My brother is  a professional musician and I just knew that his band would entertain our guests in the evening and they didn't disappoint.  Their mix of motown, funk and soul classics  kept people up on the dancefloor all night and all our guests had such a great time. I just wish we could do it all over again now!

Anyone else planning their wedding at the gorgeous Shottle Hall? If so, I hope it's as lovely as Amy and Tim's :-)

Big thanks to Amy for sharing her special day with us and for her fab advice!

I thee Wed – Inspiration from the USA

Posted by on in I thee wed.

In the next issue of Save the Date magazine (July and August) we have a very special 'Real Wedding' feature, all the way from South Carolina in the USA. But for the time being, here is a sneaky peek for you to enjoy before the big, 4 page spread in the next mag!

Kristy and Kirk married on 22nd May 2010 in Murrells Inlet, (a gorgeously quaint, sleepy fishing village) in South Carolina. Over to the blushing bride herself:

Sitting on rocking chairs on Kirk's front porch before we were even engaged, he proposed the idea of getting married at the beach. I'm much of a home body and traditionalist, but the idea of a Southern beach wedding sounded quite appealing!

My family often visited the quaint town of Murrells Inlet, known for the best seafood. You can't drive through M.I without passing and noticing a precious white church on the water. So, when Kirk mentioned the beach, I immediately thought of that white church I always admired ...

Once we decided on Murrells Inlet, my mom, Kirk and I spent a weekend there visiting many different venues. We all FELL IN LOVE with the reception venue as soon as we got there. The gorgeous place that we celebrated our new marriage with friends and family is "Wachesaw Club Plantation". It sits right on the Waccamaw River and is surrounded by the most gorgeous Live Oaks draped in Spanish Moss I've ever seen. There is a white porch that surrounds the whole building, lined in little white lights. We had many family members traveling from the north and we knew that it was the perfect mix of "Southern Elegance", with a cozy feel!

Kristy: The two main colors of our wedding were light Apple green, and "Caribbean blue". The bridesmaid dresses, by Lula Kate were made of silk shantung and were Caribbean blue. Their sashes were apple green. I gave my girls the choice of two different styles of dresses and we ended up with 6 of one style and 6 of the other. They were all the same color and hit right above the knee and they even had pockets like mine! I had 12 bridesmaids, 1 junior bridesmaid and a flower girl!

Candy table - this is really popular here. An array of pretty glass containers, labelled with all the different types of candy. Guests could fill bags which had our logo on stickers as one of their 'party favours'.

Are we loving this amazing wedding or what!? The lovely bride, Kristy has shared so much more which will be available to read in the July/August of Save the Date magazine; from her dress to the venue's decor and entertainment to the quirky little extras. This is one hell of a wedding guys so be sure to gather your USA inspiration from Kristy and Kirk and her fabulous suppliers in the next issue :-)

The fantastic photography is courtesy of Matt and Jenna Daniel of Matt Daniel Photography so go take a look and see some more of their incredible work!

I thee Wed – Save the Date need you!

Posted by on in I thee wed.

Well, our weekly 'I thee Wed' post wouldn't be much fun without some tasty weddings for our readers to get their teeth into, now would it!? So, today, we call upon you, our fabulous readers, suppliers and networking buddies to help inject some 'real wedding' glamour into our weekly dose of big day inspiration.

Perhaps you're a photographer who has recently snapped a beauty of a wedding, a venue who have just held a magnificent affair, a wedding planner who has just emerged from a spectacle of a big day or a recent bride who wants to share your day in a lifetime with us. No matter how big or small, fancy or simple, formal or relaxed, we love all types of weddings and love to be able to share big day ideas with our network of lovely readers.

Being based in the East Midlands, it makes sense for the weddings we document to be within this 'neck of the woods' but that is not to say that we won't publish weddings from further afield. For example, our real wedding next Wednesday is from across the pond (yes, we have a real life South Carolina bride whose going to share her simply amazing big day with you all. Be prepared, those American gals certainly know how to throw a dream of a big day).

So, basically, if you have a wedding (or unique event; be it birthday party, christening, celebration, engagement party) that you'd like to share, we want to hear from you! Please get in touch with us on info@savethedatemagazine.co.uk.

Please note, we do our utmost to credit suppliers and photographers where ever possible.

Pre Wedding Shoot

Posted by on in I thee wed, News.

OK, so I thee Wed is really meant to focus on a ‘real wedding’ but this time, we thought we’d share with you my experience of what is fast becoming a high priority for many brides to be – mine and Mr Burrows’ pre wedding shoot.

Not one for parading ourselves, Andrew and I were rather apprehensive at the prospect of a pre wedding shoot but our lovely photographer, Rachael Connerton, put us at ease straight away.  From the moment we arrived at West Bridgford Park, we had so much fun with the lovely Rachael and her husband Ian and felt totally natural (which we feel is demonstrated in the result of the fabulous photography).

The big question was which image do we choose for our signature mount on the big day? Possibly not your average ‘couple’ shot, but (after long deliberations) our favourite was the one with either of us sat either side of the park bench; a bit cool and total genius by Rachael.  And, here it is – the winner.

And in case you’re wondering what the rest were like, here’s a few more to give you an idea of Rachael’s fabulous work (she found places for us to sit, lean and lie on which seemed totally off the wall but turned out brilliant so remember to keep an open mind if you’re planning your pre wedding shoot!)  To get in touch with Rachael, call or email ….
