We ♥ Douzo.co.uk

Posted by on in News.

It has to be said, when it comes to your wedding day, deciding on what to ask people to buy you is a pretty daunting task. Do you sound cheeky and ask for money? (That's what I did and as cheeky as I felt, my guests were actually quite relieved to not have to trawl the shops trying to find me something!) Do you ask for contributions towards your dream honeymoon? Do you set up a gift list and request lots of pretty things for your love nest? Well, with so many options, it's a pretty big decision deciding what route to go down. Well then, imagine a website which allows you to create a gift list out of absolutley anything ... that's right - anything. Whether you fancy a romantic weekend in Paris, diving with sharks, a couples cookery class or just a fancy new toaster, you can ask for whatever you jolly well want .... so, we decided to delve a little deeper and speak to the team at Douzo.co.uk to find out more .....

If you can imagine it, you can list it.

DOUZO came out of the frustration of knowing what gifts we really wanted or needed, but being restricted on how we could share our wishes with friends and family. We had to pick affordable gifts from only one or two major stores, or we had to make an impersonal request for cash. Neither option gave us or our friends the right kind of freedom.

So we decided to make a place where the only limit on the type of gift would be our imagination. We wouldn't be tied to a store or even to things that could be bought.  It would be easy to create and share a list.  It would be easy for friends and family to give and to know that their choice is unique and welcome. That place became www.douzo.co.uk.

What is different about DOUZO?

Other list services limit you to a retailer or contributions to a single event, such as a honeymoon fund.  DOUZO lets you mix and match any type of gift, from traditional store-bought items to pledges of help. You can offer suggestions for every budget and preference. Big gifts can be bought jointly, without guests having to get together to arrange this.

Personalisation options - a range of list designs and photo uploading - make your list unique to you.  You can nominate someone to manage the list on your behalf.  (This is popular with couples who have plenty to do with other arrangements and who prefer a surprise when they find out who has given what from their list.)  You pay only a small, one-off fee, no matter how many gifts you have, how much the gifts cost, or how many people you share the list with.  Any money comes directly and immediately to you; nothing is taken from what people give.

Why "DOUZO"?

Our name comes from a Japanese word.  Its precise meaning varies in translation but it has a sense of "help yourself" or "by all means".  DOUZO is based in the South of England but available world-wide, thanks to the power of the Web. We run with a small but perfectly-formed team, who have years of experience of business, technology, and making things easy to use.  You can find us at www.douzo.co.uk, on Facebook , or Twitter @giftlistbuilder.

I thee Wed – Laine and Danny

Posted by on in I thee wed, News.

When I first clapped eyes on this wedding, my jaw simply dropped and I just could not wait to share the amazing pictures with the Save the Date crew! I had known it was coming as the lovely Jo at Shoot was telling me how excited she was to be involved with such a fabulous day and I just remember saying to Jo, "make sure you send me the pictures"! Not only did I know the pictures were going to be truly fabulous (this was Shoot after all) but with the venue being the gorgeous Chatsworth House in our very own stomping ground, Derbyshire, it felt too good to be true! And following the event, Jo sent me the photos. And here they are. Prepare for dress, ceremony and all over gorgeous wedding envy.  Plus, we have a lovely account from the beautiful bride herself.

Laine and Danny married on 19th June 2010 and here is the story:

I work in the Wedding and events office at Chatsworth House in Derbyshire.  Heathy Lea is a beautiful house situated on the Chatsworth Estate. I actually had my wedding venue booked….and then I found Heathy Lea and fell in love with it instantly.  It is the most beautiful wedding venue and the little Summer House where the ceremony takes places is just perfect.

My dress was nothing like what I thought I would pick, but as soon as I put it on I fell in love. I imagined myself in a sleek, very plain floor length gown…how wrong I was! My dress was called Paso Doble, the sleek lines and soft flounces gave it a very Spanish feel. I loved the way the dress came up at the front just enough so you could see my lovely shoes!

I wanted our wedding theme to be in keeping with the surroundings of the park.  We tried our best to keep everything to a neutral theme, using lots of nude and pastel tones.  Our marquee was again decorated in neutral tones with big Chinese lace lanterns hanging from the ceilings. We white washed old flower pots and filled them with big vintage pastel roses for table decorations. Fairy lights and lanterns decorated the trees and fences on the lawn and outside the marquee.

I think the quirky thing about our wedding defiantly has to be the Summer House where we took our vows.  It was tiny, only myself, Danny and the two registrars could fit inside, all of our guests were seated on the lawn.  I had originally booked a church for our ceremony but I am so glad we decided to do something different.  The memory of walking down the lawn to the little summer house will stay with me forever.

Our wedding day was truly the best day of our lives; it was made so special by all the people we love around us. Our day was full of laughter and love just the way we wanted it!!

My oh my, what a beauty of a wedding. Thanks so much to Laine for her heart warming account of the day and to the lovely Jo and Simon at Shoot for supplying us with such amazing images - you guys are fab!

Supplier of the week – Bluebell Bakery

Posted by on in Fab Suppliers, News.

So, the main priority for a wedding cake or cupcakes? Why, the taste of course. No bride wants a cake which looks soggy or dry, tasteless or too full of sugar - it's got to be just right. So, once that has been mastered, the close second priority has to be the 'look'. Us brides (yes, I'm still calling myself one, not ready to lose that tag just yet!) love a cake which not only matches in with our colour scheme but has guests' heads turning and whispering 'check out those beautiful cakes'.

Well, finding a company who not only provide totally yummy cakes but also make them look too good to eat, are very few and far between .... so imagine our delight at coming across the fabulous Bluebell Bakery with their divine and 'far too pretty to be shoving in your cake hole but you just can't resist' cupcakes.

Pretty and feminine, contemporary or vintage style, get in touch with the lovely Tanya at Bluebell Bakery and let your cupcakes turn some heads at your forthcoming wedding or event. Thanks Tanya for your gorgeous pictures!
