We ♥ a good bargain!

Posted by on in News, We ♥.

Don't get me wrong, we're not cheap skates but what can be better than knowing you've bought something for a lot less than you could have paid for it? Surely, everyone loves a bargain and as long as it's what you want and it's at the right (reduced) price, it's the best feeling EVER.

So, we bring you onto our lovely friends at the Dressing Room in Draycott who have a bargain to share with you all ....

It's sad time of year for us here at The Dressing Room, as we say 'goodbye' to a selection of our gorgeous designer wedding dress samples. But for some lucky brides to be, it’s a chance to celebrate as they will walk away with their dream gown at a dream price!

With exquisite gowns from our favourite designers Ritva Westenius, Charlotte Balbier and Sarah Arnett, some at less than half the original price, we expect to be busy, so there is no appointment necessary on the day.

If you can't find anything suitable in the sale, don't despair as we are offering 10% off all other wedding dresses and accessories for one day only, so no-one misses out!

With a glass of bubbly for the bride and her entourage, it’s a fun way to while away an hour or so and we look forward to welcoming you on the day.

Saturday 7th August, 9am - 5pm.

Come on girls, what are you waiting for? Champagne, a steal of a dress and all in the lovely surroundings of the gorgeous Dressing Room, if only I hadn't got married myself 3 months ago .... ;-)

Enjoy.

Supplier of the week – Cakey Wakey

Posted by on in Fab Suppliers.

A gift from her mother in law 16 years ago in the shape of a part work magazine on cake making and decorating, was the start of a new chapter in Joanne Wakefield’s life - this was the beginning of the Cakey Wakey journey.

With a vast library of books and magazines, Joanne has amazingly taught herself everything she knows about the art of cake making and decorating. A highly successful cake business, Cakey Wakey boasts a great portfolio of work, from traditional sponge and fruit cakes, to celebration cakes, cookie favours, cupcakes and toppers.

With a real passion for cakes and of course weddings, Joanne works from home and ensures each and every one of her clients receive a personal, one-to-one service. From the initial consultation where Joanne discusses the requirements, from colour schemes to flavours, toppers to presentation, everything is captured right from the start. A true perfectionist, Joanne always hand delivers her wedding cakes to the venue and places them in position herself to ensure it looks just perfect.

When it comes to toppers, Joanne has a real talent for creating an uncanny resemblance of an individuals’ look through the art of icing and sugar which begins with a photograph of the couple being taken at the consultation for Joanne to recreate as cute toppers for the cakes. Recent toppers have included a dog digging through the cake and a bride and groom sat eating cupcakes, covered in crumbs – nothing is too off the wall for Cakey Wakey!

Now, with more and more demand for fabulous and highly creative wedding cakes, Joanne is busier than ever but still ensures she retains her high standards of service, with everything totally homemade, boasting the adorable catchphrase “The only preservatives in our cakes is in the jam”.

Joanne, we couldn’t agree more.

Classic, historical and nostalgic wedding dresses really do provide a dose of inspiration for that big day unique factor. So, when we heard that the beautiful Doddington Hall, near Lincoln were showcasing a variety of incredible dresses dating back to the 1800's, we just had to get it out there! So, here is a press release from Doddington Hall telling you all about this wonderful exhibition and what you can look forward to seeing:

An exhibition of unusual, interesting and historic wedding dresses will be taking place during August and early September at Doddington Hall near Lincoln, promising a fascinating collection of approximately 60 dresses from around the county and further afield. The exhibition is supported by a grant from Renaissance East Midlands.

All couples attending the Exhibition can enter a competition to win a wedding venue at Doddington: http://www.doddingtonhall.com/calendar/event/54

Stately homes from around Lincolnshire will be represented. As well as dresses from the Jarvis family at Doddington including Victoria Jarvis’ 1960s Hardy Amies dress and current owner Claire Birch’s 1986 Droopy & Brown ‘Princess Diana-Inspired’ dress, visitors can see the 1997 Ben de Lisi silk and crystal dress belonging to Miranda Rock of Burghley House; both the wedding dress and wedding kimono belonging to Rie Day of Fulbeck Hall; the white silk Princess-line dress with hand-sown pearls and train later used for christenings worn by Easton Walled Garden’s Lady Ursula Cholmeley and a dress designed by Miss Sara Perceval for the daughter of Shervie Price, owner of Harrington Hall near Spilsby. Also included is the wedding dress gifted to Lady Ursula d’Abo of Belvoir Castle – cited as one of The Queen’s most beautiful Maids of Honour at her Coronation - by the Maharani of Jaipur in 1946/7.

Dresses of historical interest are included. As well as dresses very similar to those worn by Lady Diana Spencer and Lady Jayne Grey, also secured is the dress worn in 1820 by the illegitimate daughter of George IV, who was just 12 years old when she married. The tiny dress is edged with ribbon and net lace with leg o’mutton sleeves.

Unusual & local interest dresses will be displayed. These include a black wedding dress, a wedding dress for dogs, a knitted dress and a dress made from Lincolnshire Longwool by a shepherdess. Dresses worn in recent years at weddings held at Doddington Hall will be making a return. Dresses belonging to staff at the Hall have also been loaned, including the Nepalese dress belonging to Gauri Limbu. A 1907 silk dress owned by a lady from Skellingthorpe is included, as is a 1940’s gold silk dress worn at a Horncastle wedding.
